The Afridis live in the mountains on the Peshawar border of the North-West Frontier Province and have a reputation for ferocity and craftiness and are said to be first-rate soldiers. This tribe is divided into eight clans named Kuki Khel, Malikdin Khel, Kambar Khel, Kamar Khel, Zakka Rhel, Sipah, Aka Khel and Adam Khel.

Most Afridis live near the Khyber Pass while the Adam Khel clan lives around the Kohat Pass. The Afridis are tall and athletic, has a long, gaunt face, high nose and cheek-bones, and fair complexion.
